Google Calendar or local archive?
SerKal's initial setup offers two clear choices. Your series archive works locally in both cases.
The two choices
Google Calendar (recommended)
Choose this if SerKal should add episode dates to Google Calendar and maintain them later. SerKal uses an existing calendar named SerKal or creates it automatically. You do not have to enter a calendar ID.
Do not use a calendar
Choose this if you only want the local SerKal archive. Series and seasons can still be added, saved and managed; no Google sign-in and no calendar entries are required.
Current access status:
Google Calendar access is still in Google's testing and verification phase. Only Google accounts that have been added as SerKal test users can currently authorise the connection. If your account has not been approved yet, select Do not use a calendar; the local archive remains fully usable.
For Google Calendar:
Select Google Calendar and continue with Next to the summary. Save all stores the TMDB and calendar settings together. You can change this choice later via Calendar.
What happens during Google sign-in
- Add a season with Insert. The season is first stored in the local SerKal archive.
- When SerKal creates the first calendar entry, it opens Google's account selection in your browser.
- Choose an approved test account and allow the requested access.
- Return to SerKal. Calendar dates are created in the separate SerKal calendar.
That is normally all you need to do. SerKal finds the SerKal calendar itself or creates it automatically.
Important for end users:
You do not need Google Cloud, a client ID, a JSON file or a calendar ID. These technical details are not part of the user setup.
If the connection does not work
- Check whether your Google account has been added as an approved SerKal test user.
- Make sure you are signed in to that same account in your browser.
- If you cancelled the process or denied access, start the calendar operation again from SerKal.
- A calendar error does not automatically mean that the local archive failed. Check whether the season appears in the archive on the right.
- If your account is not approved yet, switch to Do not use a calendar and continue using the local archive.
